Being a digital nomad in Greece

Digital Nomads

Travelling around the world while working on your computer sounded utopian a few years ago. Nowadays, technology has made it possible. Moreover, the pandemic has made it a safe and reasonable choice, a new way of doing this, that has come to stay. So, the era of the digital nomads got off to a good start. They are self-employed, or work remotely for a company. They make their own schedule; they do not have a strict 8 hour working day or a specific desk to work at. One need they have wherever they are is an excellent and stable internet connection.
The digital nomads choose to work wherever they like and decide to change the scenery whenever they need. Being a digital nomad in Greece comes with an abundance of pros.

Why to Choose Greece

Landscape

The landscape varies strongly from place to place, one can live next to the beach or enjoy the mountainous landscape. There are also places that combine both.

Weather Conditions

The weather conditions follow suit, lots of sunshine and heat near the beach or cold and snow by the mountains.

Tradition, history and fashion

The country offers a unique combination of tradition, history and fashion. Walk around the ruins of the most important monuments of the world all over the country to feel the vibes of the history that has created civilization as we know it today. Afterwards, indulge yourself into a dive into the bluest and warmest waters of Greece’s famous beaches, most of which are well known for their all day long parties.

Transportation

Transportation is easy. There are buses, a punctual and well-organized metro system (in Athens), the tram for the romantic travellers (in Athens), bike rentals, car rentals and taxis. The closer one lives to the centre the more options one has. Still though, transportation is available even in suburbs that are far away from the city centre.

Cost of living

The cost of living is lower than that of most of the countries of the western world. The quality of the fresh products is very high; one can find fresh milk, fresh fish that is sold on the boats right after it is fished or delicious meat straight from farms. Fruits and vegetables alike can be bought in supermarkets like everywhere around the world or straight from small producers who sell the produce they themselves grow. Needless to say, everything is available for special diets, such as gluten free or vegan or…. you name it.

Other advanced
  • The easiness of communicating in English, as every Greek can speak it more or less, along with other languages
  • The hospitality of the people which is innate, they care that the foreigners have a good time
  • The easy access to places because Greece is a small country and travelling around it does not take long.
