Athens

Athens is the capital of Greece. It is the biggest city of the country and it can serve all tastes. Traditionally all foreigners stay in the city centre to feel the vibes of the history it relates to.

Places to stay

There is a wide variety of housing possibilities. One may choose a small apartment to stay alone or a private room and bathroom in a house while sharing the livingroom and kitchen facilities.

Places to work and internet connection

Almost all of the cafes in Athens have internet connection they share with the customers who enjoy their coffee or a dish. Nowadays all the more we see people enjoying themselves and working at the same time, university students proceeding with their projects or meetings taking place outdoors.
Buying a sim card to have prepaid internet and use it everywhere is an inexpensive option.
There are co – working places in Athens with guaranteed fast wifi connections where one will work and get the chance to mingle with other freelancers and digital workers. It is also possible to enjoy a meal, a snack or even a drink later in the day attending a performance. Indicatively, a few places are mentioned:

Selina Theatrou – Omonia Address: 18 Theatrou Plaza, Historic Centre
The Cube – Historic Centre Address: 73 Aiolou Str, Historic Centre
Spaces – Monastiraki Address: 56 Ermou Str, Monastiraki

Transportation

When you are in Athens, you walk!!! Wear your most comfortable shoes and enjoy the city centre in the most appropriate way. Visit the archaeological sites, buy fresh fruit and vegetables, eat souvlaki, talk to the people at the shops; they always have ideas for you for something to buy or a place to visit, enter the museums, rest and continue another day… The more you look the more you find!
Alternatively, the bus service is good enough – both blue and yellow buses – the metro system is punctual, and the tram is good even though a little slow. There are plenty of taxis in the street that one can stop any time. Renting a car is an option but not a good one because most of the centre is available to pedestrians only. Renting a bike is easy but be careful riding it in the street.
Going anywhere outside the centre, one will need the public transportation system mentioned, a car or a motorbike. The city is big and has a lot to offer. One can go to the beach to swim or just get a tan which is in the southern part or may go up the mountain (there is snow in winter) in the northern part.
